Make the most of your spices

Hurray! You've chosen spices that have been cultivated, processed, and packaged with great care. Together with the farmers and the social workshop Siza, we do everything we can to get the spices to your home as quickly and in the best possible condition.

We use a best-before date of 2 years after harvest. However, this is a fairly short period compared to conventional spices. These often take two years to even reach the shelves. Of course, we strongly encourage you to use your spices within those two years, but what if you can't? That's certainly not a disaster. The best-before date is a guideline. The flavour might be slightly less intense after that, but you can still use the spices just fine!

Harvest information per spice:

*The best before date is determined by a combination of the harvest date and the date on which the cans/repacks are filled.

How to best store your spices:

Airtight

Ensure an airtight package, such as a tin or a jar with a screw cap. It is therefore important that you pack spices from a repack into an airtight container as soon as possible after opening the repack.

Light-free

When herbs and spices are exposed to direct light, their aroma molecules break down and they dry out. This therefore detracts from their flavor. Glass jars are best stored in a closed kitchen cabinet. Alternatively, choose jars that are opaque to light.

Without moisture

Moisture also affects the aroma molecules of your spices, causing them to quickly lose their flavor. Therefore, do not store them above the stove (due to cooking vapors) or in a place where steam from the kettle can reach them. The refrigerator is also a bad place to store them for this reason.
